  1. Hi Hillary,
I’m a friend of Tamara’s & I stumbled across your blog. I’m in tears reading it. I’m so sorry about your dad. My dad is sick, really sick. He was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer last October. His getting really sick now & I’m really struggling…I’m having a really hard time knowing he won’t be here much longer, I guess I don’t really know what to say but, your blog touched me & somehow made me feel better knowing I’m not alone.

    • Michelle, you’re not alone. These kinds of things are truly unfair. I know exactly how you feel though, one of the most comforting things for me, has been talking to people who’ve lost their parent at a young age because its nice to know that I’m not crazy and also that I’m not alone. Having a sick parent, especially a sick dad, is extremely hard… there is no denying that. I’m so sorry you have to go through it but the support from your family and friends will get you through. Enjoy and cherish every last second with your dad and please give him extra kisses for me. If you need anything, and I mean anything, please don’t hesitate to contact me. Sometimes just having someone to talk to about what’s going on is all you need.

      With all my love,
      Hillary

      • Ignore my previous comment today, I just saw this (blogs still confuse me!!) Thanks for writing me back! I really appreciate your kind words and advice. We got a “better than expected” scan today, so that’s good. Have a wonderful trip!! Spending that time with your mom will be amazing and therapeutic I’m sure! Can’t wait to follow your journey!!

        ps.
I’m super jealous you’re in Paris!! Please go to Chanel immediately and have lots of champagne for me!!

    • Michelle! That’s such great news about your dad’s scan! I know this disease is so exhausting, full of ups and downs and positives and negatives. Please keep me updated with his progress and I’ll keep him and your family in my thoughts and prayers. I don’t know the specific strain of pancreatic cancer too well but my dad’s cancer was stage 4 for almost all 6 years that he had it so hang in there! Sometimes bad news isn’t always as bad as we think it is. Lots of love!! -Hillary

  2. Goodness ladies! I think the lesson from the first day is to know the exact route. I am a map person and I would have been Terrified! In that situation. Do you have flashlights? Sounds like a much deserved day (or 2) of rest and re-couperation are in order. Enjoy the sights. It’s like starting a work-out program, don’t do so much right off the bat that your hurt and can’t continue. By the way, DON’T KILL yourselves. Love, Lon

  3. I am loving the blog!!! What a wonderful writer and photographer you are Hillary! You both are beautiful and the scenery is incredible. However. please keep the scary episodes to a minimum! Enjoy the journey and come home safe. Namaste, Jo

  4. Glad to hear Ariane is back up to speed! Updates are great. Looks like you two are covering some ground. I think your mother was in Pamplona before (The Sun Also Rises, Dad’s thesis) about ’51? I claim to have been there! Keep up the good communications. Thanks, Lon.

  5. I think I might have opted for the taxi to Burgos a little sooner? Sure sounds like a wonderful experience you are having. Keeps us posted!
